On a bright sunny day on Sunday 24th September Mary Berry CBE opened the the 2017 sheep drive across London Bridge. She was joined by many of our Freemen including Senior Warden Peter Hewitt and his family , Peter is Immediate Past Master of The Worshipful Company of Woolmen .
The sheep drive celebrates the Freemen of the City’s right to drive the animals over the bridge and the ancient tradition sees hundreds of people taking turns herding two groups of 10 sheep back and forth over the River Thames. It dates back to the 12th century, when traders were allowed to enter the City without paying a toll.
It was a lovely sunny day and the the Guild of Young Freeman stewarded it incredibly well assisted by a detachment of Army Cadets.
