The Spring Breakfast 2019

On Tuesday 2nd April, 2019 the Guild of Entrepreneurs ventured west to the City of Westminster for the Fourth Annual Spring Gathering, on this occasion for breakfast. The Master had been invited to host this year’s breakfast at Home Grown a new private members’ club in Marylebone.

Home Grown* (which is a sister club to Home House, and did not officially open until the following day) is a club for high-growth entrepreneurs, and describes itself as a “space for like-minded people to network, entertain and grow in beautiful surroundings”. We were honoured therefore to have been invited to experience the facilities ahead of its opening and thank them for their excellent hospitality.

Freemen Entrepreneurs, their business guests and guests of the Guild, were greeted warmly with tea, coffee and a range of breakfast options in the fully-refurbished clubhouse in its bright and convivial Montagu Room .

Suitably fed and watered, following a few words from the Master, Mr Peter Hewitt, and the CEO of the Home House group, Andrew Richardson, the Ambassador of Belgium rose to address the assembled audience upon Belgium, Britain and of course the other “B“ word… Brexit. The Ambassador, His Excellency Rudolf Huygelen, had prepared a broad discourse examining in fascinating detail much surrounding Anglo-Belgian trade, political and legal relations.

His Excellency then opened up the floor to questions, which provoked stimulating discussion and some valuable closer examinations by Freemen Entrepreneurs, members of the City of London Corporation, and other specially invited international visitors amongst others from Norway and Slovakia.

Concluding a little after 10am, it was widely agreed that the 2019 Spring Breakfast, the fourth we’ve hosted was a terrific success – and a very fitting addition to the roll of these high-value and insightful annual gatherings.

The Spring Breakfast (sometimes lunch) is held annually on the Tuesday after Mothering Sunday, where Freemen, their business guests, and guests of the Guild are nourished both physically and intellectually. Good food is served, and a notable speaker addresses a contemporary topic business and entrepreneurship topic

In 2016 it was held aboard HQS Wellington, and, coinciding (as it did that year) with International Women’s Day, Claire Cockerton took as her theme Promoting Gender Parity in Modern Entrepreneurship.

In 2017, it took place at the London Capital Club and was preceded by the signing of the Guild’s Article of Affiliation with the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. The speaker, Anthony Belchambers, addressed Brexit, Trump, and the New Landscape for Entrepreneurs.

In 2018, at Armourers’ Hall, where insurance veteran Robert Hiscox spoke upon Risk, Belief – and the Entrepreneur.

The 2020 Spring Breakfast will be held on Tuesday 24th March

*Opening the day following our event, the immediate reaction has been highly positive as evidenced by comments upon the club’s official LinkedIn page. Which we would recommend following to stay in touch with both the club and its events. Click here to learn more
