Peter Lionel Raleigh Hewitt, JP, FCSI, FRSA
Peter Hewitt was installed as the 5th Master Entrepreneur on 28th November 2018.
Peter was admitted as one of the original 16 Founding Freeman of the Guild of Entrepreneurs and elected to Court in 2014. He served as the Guild’s first Junior Warden. He was invested as Middle Warden in April 2015, and as Senior Warden in November 2015. Following the death of Alderman Sir Paul Judge in 2017, Peter served as Sponsoring Alderman for the Guild of Entrepreneurs until July 2018. Peter’s mother Livery Company is the Worshipful Company of Woolmen, where he served as Master in 2016-17.
Peter is a serial entrepreneur, business leader and communicator with extensive experience at PLC board level, having been Chairman or Director of 11 UK Public Companies over the last 25 years and was a founding director of 8 of these including 7 years as Chairman and CEO of an AIM quoted construction and FM business, which he founded. Peter is currently is currently:
Co-Chairman of Universal Defence and Security Solutions Ltd; a director of the Armadillo Group Ltd; a non-executive director of Puma 10 VCT PLC, a company quoted on the UK’s Official List of the London Stock Exchange, and; a senior Adviser at Brennan and Partners.
Peter is a keen and astute supporter of the enterprise culture, both private sector as well as not for profit. He mentors and advises a number of entrepreneurs as well as investing himself.
From April 2012-July 2018, Peter served as Alderman for the Ward of Aldgate where he sat on numerous committees including City’s Livery and Magistracy committee, Finance, Investment and Property Committees (£6bn under management) and was the inaugural Chairman of the City’s £20m Social Investment Fund.
Peter is also a member of the Governments Taskforce on Retail Social Investment and is a former member of the Associate Parliamentary Group on Wholesale Financial Markets; a UKTI Catalyst member and advisor to the Financial Services Organisation of the UKTI, writing a number of papers on overseas investment opportunities.
Peter is closely involved in a number of charities, having been the Chairman of the Waterloo 200 Banquet Committee which raised funds for both ABF – The Soldiers Charity and the Prince Albert Scholarship scheme. He is currently an Appeal Patron of Sea Change Sailing Trust and a finance committee member of ABF – The Soldiers Charity. He is a Justice of the Peace on the supplemental list and has recently been appointed an Honorary Group Captain in 601 Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
Peter is married to Fidelma (who is a Liveryman of the Pewterers) and between them, they have four children – all of whom work in and around the City. They live in London near Aldgate during the week and return home to Worthing in Sussex at the weekends. Peter’s interests include sailing, motorcycling and aviation.
