On 6 July, the inaugural call for women to take a “Night off from their Day Job” was made and – with the generous assistance of London Capital Club – our first comedy evening was held in their beautiful Wren Room.
A fizzy reception was followed up with an expertly prepared three course meal and wine, with a raffle organised in aid of the Guild Trust. Having inadvertently found myself organising such an event, I have to admit I was a poor compere for the main act, comedian, Abi Roberts. Abi was excellent, entertaining us with snippets of Russian and opera, sometimes combining the two. Although, lest you think it was too high-brow, I brought us back down to earth by forgetting the raffle tickets such that we had to come up with a more entrepreneurial angle of picking the winners. Wine finished and winners picked, we retired to the Members’ Bar for a night cap.
The evening was a great success with calls for more, meaning my thinking cap is on for the next one already. We might even let the boys come next time! I would like to thank our hosts London Capital Club and our generous raffle prize donors, London Capital Club, Lee Robertson and Tara Dawn. A percentage from ticket proceeds goes to the Guild Trust.
