International Womens Day events – by Freeman Jenny Garrett
International Women’s Day was not just a day, but a weeklong celebration for me.
There week was packed full of inspirational and diverse events, I have picked three highlights to share with you.
The first highlight of my week was running a teen girl empowerment conference via my social enterprise Rocking Ur Teens. Almost 200 teenage girls attended from across the UK, to be inspired and increase their aspirations. They heard from amazing speakers, such as world record holding Emma Mitchell who sailed from America to Australia and Grace Barrett from the Self Esteem Team, who overcame many challenges to be the businesswoman she is today. The energy was palpable and the enthusiasm from the girls to seek out the careers that were right for them and make a positive difference in the world was encouraging. This event gives me hope for the next generation and I look forward to our teen boys conference in November.
The second highlight of my week was speaking at the Women of The World (WOW) Conference held at the Southbank Centre, London. WOW champions gender equality, celebrating the achievements of women and girls everywhere and examining the obstacles that keep them from fulfilling their potential. I spoke to a packed room of women on Finding Your Purpose and Developing Your Personal Brand. The three-day festival is held annually and has offshoots all over the world and has an impressive lineup.
My final highlight was speaking at a conference for Expat Women in Spain via the wonders of You Tube live on Making Things Happen as a female entrepreneur. The talk can be viewed here
What a week, I look forward with anticipation to 2018 and a whole lot of progress for women between now and then.
