In Celebration of Charity – City Giving Day 2021
Since its foundation, the Company of Entrepreneurs has made charity one of its core principles. As the Company and the Trust have grown, so too has the financial help that is afforded to a variety of causes that support self-reliance, business education, and enterprise skills.
To raise awareness of the enormous value of charity in the City of London, the Lord Mayor’s Appeal celebrated City Giving Day 2021 on Tuesday 21st September. The day began bright and early in Guildhall Yard with the Master Entrepreneur, Mr Lars Andersen, proud to #GoRed for City Giving Day in support of the Lord Mayor.
As part of the many thousands of pounds that is awarded annually by the Company and the Trust together, the Master was delighted to today authorise a donation from the Company to the Sheriffs’ & Recorder’s Fund. Based at the Old Bailey, the Sheriffs’ & Recorder’s Fund works to break the vicious cycle of reoffending, by supporting employment (often self-employment) and training for those leaving prison. The Company of Entrepreneurs wholly supports the charity’s work in making honest opportunities accessible and viable to ex-offenders, and in prison-based charitable schemes which work towards prisoner rehabilitation.
As has become something of a tradition to mark the beginning of the new academic year, the Company of Entrepreneurs Trust used today’s celebration to pay across grants to two of its beneficiaries. The Clerk’s office also went red as cheques were signed and letters of congratulations written to Billy Dennis (who starts at Loughborough University next week) and Start-Up Sprint (which begins again alongside courses at the University of East London this Autumn).
