Committees

Whilst the Master, Wardens and Court directs the Company’s overarching strategy, the implementation of the Guild’s work is devolved to a number of Committees, each chaired by a member of the Court.

AWARDS – the Awards Committee manages the Company’s financial charitable and prize-giving activities (as distinct from the independent Company of Entrepreneurs Trust). It makes applications to the Company of Entrepreneurs Trust for financial support where appropriate.

COMMUNICATIONS & EVENTS – the Communications & Events Committee ensures the effectiveness of the Company’s events, marketing and communications. Maintenance of the website and the annual magazine form a large part of the work of the Committee, alongside social media and the production of branded collateral. This Committee also plans and executes the Company’s calendar of social events and the Annual Lecture. It is a busy Committee, ensuring a diverse range of Company-led events, as well as coordinating the Company’s participation in inter-Livery and City-wide social activities. The Communications & Events Committee also looks after public relations issues for the Guild and its Officers.

EDUCATION – the Company’s commitments to its partners in education are wide-ranging and extensive. Directing and implementing programmes at secondary and tertiary levels are a core part of this Committee’s work, together with advising on business skills tuition and mentoring.

FINANCE – the Treasurer chairs the Finance Committee, which scrutinises the annual budgets and accounts, and discusses all aspects of the Company’s financial activities. It makes recommendations to Court on current expenditure and forecasts the Guild’s future financial liabilities.

MEMBERSHIP – the Membership Committee solicits and processes applications for the Freedom of the Company, as well as directing and assisting with recruitment. The Committee arranges the interviewing of candidates, and makes recommendations to the Court as to the approval of candidates.

OUTREACH – this Committee plans and executes the Company’s programme of practical outreach work. It implements assistance to the Company’s affiliated professional organisations, and manages the Company’s support of grassroots entrepreneurship schemes. It currently has a portfolio of very diverse projects, with numerous opportunities for Freemen to assist on a permanent or ad hoc basis.

FUNDRAISING – this Committee is responsible for three fundraising themes; the sponsorship of The Company and Company events; the curation of fund raising events, delivered in cooperation with the Communications and Events Committee; and the attraction of funds to The Company’s charity.
