The 2017 Wardmote in Candlewick was a colourful affair, presided over by the Ward’s Alderman Dame Fiona Woolf DBE DL at the Church of St Clement Eastcheap on Wednesday 22nd March. The Wardmote is an ancient custom, of pre-Conquest origin, and is a formal meeting of candidates, electoral officers and constituents. The Guild was represented by the Clerk. As part of the formalities, Mr Bill Bateman, splendidly attired in his gold-trimmed coat and cape, was re-elected as Ward Beadle, and Miss Sheila Robinson was re-appointed as Hon Ward Clerk.
Two of the three candidates for election as the Ward’s two Common Councilmen were present to outline their manifestos in person, and the electors were commanded to return to St Clement’s on Thursday to cast their votes.
