24 – Mar : CANCELLED Spring Breakfast
For Freemen Entrepreneurs and their Business Guests
The Spring Breakfast (an overtly business affair) is held annually on the Tuesday after Mothering Sunday, where Freemen and their business guests are nourished (both physically and intellectually) with a hearty breakfast and a heavyweight speaker. This year, we welcome Dr Catherine Raines, former CEO of UK Trade and Investment, to speak about the International Post-Brexit Enterprise and Investment Landscape
We return to the exclusive private members’ club, HomeGrown: the West End home of entrepreneurs and high-growth businesses.
The Guild of Entrepreneurs is delighted to welcome, as its principal guest and speaker,
Dr Catherine Raines
Catherine has extensive experience in international business and government, including periods spent living and working in the UK, the USA, Sweden and China (twice). She has spent twenty five years in the private sector, mostly in global Pharma: with roles as diverse as Head of Group Corporate Audit; Director of International Assets Strategy; Director of Global Supply; and VP Corporate Development China for AstraZeneca, based in Shanghai.
More recently, she has worked in government. In 2013 she was appointed by then Prime Minister David Cameron to lead the government’s trade efforts in China, based out of Beijing. With staff and partners (mostly Chinese nationals) located across 15 Chinese cities, she grew a twelve-fold increase in trade outcomes and led on all commercial aspects of bilateral economic and trade dialogues. Subsequently, she was appointed global CEO of UK Trade and Investment, leading 2700 staff across 108 countries – and working with countless partners and stakeholders in the UK and overseas to deliver the complex global trade delivery agenda. She conceived and delivered the world-first digital trade platform great.gov.uk offering real-time live export opportunities to British businesses. In the wake of the Referendum decision to leave the EU, she became a founder member of the Board of the newly created Department for International Trade in preparation for Brexit. She also sat on the Boards of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and UK Export Finance.
