15 – Apr : The Appreciation Supper 2021
The now legendary Appreciation Supper returns in virtual form for 2021 with a hosted wine tasting from our friends at Tanners Wine Merchants of Shrewsbury. Liveryman Woolman Robert Boutflower shares three of his favourite vintages (plus a cheeky English fizz for the determined taster!) from the Tanners’ lists in a tutored tasting which promises to be as entertaining as educational!
The themes of entertainment and education then continue, and the Appreciation Supper will be of interest to all members of the Company as an opportunity to practise some of the customs particular to City of London Guilds and Livery Companies. Enjoy some supper (or skip straight to the cheese) in the company of City raconteur Nigel Pullman and the Company Chaplain, Canon David Parrott, who will make for a heady and fast-moving evening.
This light-hearted but richly-appointed affair – complete with guidance for Toasts, Sung Graces, Loving Cups, Rose Bowls and National Anthems – will be punctuated with guidance from the Officers and senior members, who will share their many years’ experience of City and Livery events.
Designate a couple of household vessels as your own Loving Cup and Rose Bowl, keep the carpet-cleaner on standby, as Freemen old and new try to remember the theory and practice of City traditions.
Dress Code : Black tie encouraged!
Court and Officers’ badges are to be worn.
Founder/Founding Member lapel badges and Members’ gold pins may be worn.
