On Tuesday 8th August, Freemen and their guests were set to meet as usual for the monthly social drinks, but, this month, there was a slight twist as the party moved from its regular spot (London Capital Club) to explore the taste of English Gin. After arriving at the not-yet-opened Tasting Rooms in Borough Market, guests were welcomed by Peter from the Wine Pantry with an East London Liquor Company Batch 2 Gin topped up with Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic and finished off with Redcurrant and Blueberry garnish! What a good welcome it was – setting up a fantastic evening for all to enjoy.
“Exclusive ‘secret’ venue, gin, cheese and good company. What more could you want? It’s always nice to do something different and find a hidden London gem in the process. Lovely evening!” Amy McManus -Freeman
With over 80 different gins presented on the infamous Gin Wall, it was definitely an exploration of the senses. No one man or women made it through all of the gins, and so we are pleased to have already started planning our next visit.
“The Gin Guild social was both fun and engaging. Taking place in the great surroundings of Borough Market our Freemen and guests enjoyed a fine selection of gins, delicious nibbles and a plenty of stimulating conversation. This kind of event serves as a good opportunity for our guests to socialise with the Freemen whilst at the same time getting a feel for the Guild.” Rick Lowe – Junior Warden
It was lovely to see so many Freemen and guests (and the downright curious) in attendance, and a special thanks to the Master and Wardens for supporting this event. We were especially honoured by our distinguished and entrepreneurial guest, the Master International Banker, Mr Frank Moxon.
